Cedar sided year round house located in the Adirondack Park less than 1 hour from Albany and less than 4 hours from NYC. The property abuts conservation land and includes exclusive use of more than an acre of level riverfront land with 234 feet on the Sacandaga River which runs into the 27 mile long Great Sacandaga Lake. During renovation we found its interior walls had been covered with newspaper from 1869. Most of the original first floor is still intact. The exterior walls are about 8" thick with several layers of siding on the outside and horizontal flattened logs on the inside. The flattened logs are boards about 2 thick and 10 wide with rounded edges and caulked joints so the effect is log cabin but the walls are almost flat. The beams in the ceiling are original and are hand hewn. Some of the windows are original with slightly rippled antique glass. The rear windows in the main room have been removed and replaced with large thermo pane windows looking out over the Sacandaga River. The old entrance porch has been enclosed and heated for a year-round sun room. Because the old general store had had a potbellied stove in the middle of the room and years of cold feet had worn a ring deep into the floor, the original floor boards were beyond repair and were replaced with hardwood parquet. A powder room has been added off the den, and the kitchen has been completely redone with custom cabinets made from aged cherry wood harvested from Cole mountain (1/2 mile away). There is a small deck off the kitchen for barbequing. The second floor is all new from the roof to the plumbing, heating, wiring, insulation, windows, closets and carpeting. There are 3 double bedrooms and a fully tiled bathroom with a tub/shower. The furnace and hot water heater are in the basement accessible through a hatch in floor of the sun porch. The basement floor is concrete and the walls are fieldstone cemented in place. Heat is propane fired hot air on the first floor with individually controlled electric baseboard units on the second floor (the house warms up very quickly for a visit in the winter). The Sacdandaga River flows into the 27 mile long Great Sacandaga Lake.
