Launch your kayak, canoe, or motor boat from this dramatic waterfront home located in Middlesex County, Virginia near historic Urbanna. This 1.4 acre property has over 575 feet of waterfront. It is located on a peninsula jutting out into LaGrange Creek which is a large tributary of the Rappahannock River.
The house has 4,144 sq. ft. of living area, plus a 352 sq. ft. screened porch, a 720 sq. ft. two-car garage and shop area, a large octagonal deck, and a second floor balcony. The two story house contains two master bedroom suites one with his and hers private bathrooms, the other with a single bath - and a third master suite with private bath and separate 22 x 22 living room. There is a fifth full bath located on the main floor. The living room, kitchen, and dining room are all part of an open, dramatic 908 sq. ft. great room, complete with a dining rotunda. The house features a separate 13 x 17 family room, two offices, formerly used as bedrooms, and a small library with built-in shelving.
The main two-story portion of the house is less than two years old and has all new kitchen appliances. Kitchen counters are quartz with a large L-shaped island in the middle. This new section has its own 19 seer heat pump system for heating and cooling. The older portion of the house, which is the original 1947 bungalow, has a second 19 seer system also less than two years old, as well as new James Hardy siding and lifetime roof shingles to match the two-story addition. The house has a back-up emergency generator with a 350 gallon propane tank.
Due to the location of the house on a peninsula, one has a distinct sense of privacy, and from most windows one only sees a single distant house across the creek, or another down the creek toward the Rappahannock. The term creek is somewhat misleading, as in this part of Virginia it actually describes a tidal inlet. LaGrange Creek at the end of our pier has a normal tidal fluctuation so that the depth varies from 3 to 5 feet. The pier itself is one year old and is 116 feet in length with a large entertainment deck, swim platform, and two ladders.
The town of Urbanna is 4 and one half miles from the house by road, and is a 15 to 20 minute ride by boat. Urbanna is a charming waterfront town with many restaurants, shops, two banks, a drug store, a full-service grocery store, etc. The larger towns of Gloucester and Tappahannock are 30 minutes away. Williamsburg, Newport News, and Richmond are only an hour away.
This must be seen house has it all breathtaking views with water on three sides, large open spaces, room for lots of company, proximity to a historic town, and a beautiful rural setting. The house is perfect both for full-time living, as well as part-time vacationing. |
